The weather forecast looks fantastic for this coming weekend but it’s not all good news for our lawns! The combination of low nighttime temperatures and the obvious lack of moisture (not only in the leaf but in general) means germination and growth rate development are both struggling. So the only real answer is to pray for low pressure and rain or water the lawn yourself. We get the reluctance of lawn owners to use this valuable resource but even 30 minutes at dusk 2 or 3 times a week would help immensely. Oh, and this is important, don’t mow too short for 2 reasons. Firstly the moisture is retained in the leaf and the longer the leaf the more dew it can collect, and secondly the leaf will protect the soil from direct sunlight which dries it out.
