About this county

Fife is a natural peninsula and historic county in eastern Scotland, home to the most ancient university within Scotland and one of the oldest universities in the world: the University of St. Andrews, established in 1413. St. Andrews is also known as the home of golf.

The land contains extinct volcanic features, including the Lomond Hills, and Largo Law, a volcanic plug in the east. The soil here is extremely fertile, and north of Lomond is mostly agricultural land.

Gardens in Fife enjoy a temperature maritime climate, with average highs of 12°C and lows of 5°C. Spring through to early autumn provides a mild growing season, with a good number of sunshine hours. Rainfall is relatively even month to month, so garden is Fife can enjoy a steady and reliable propagation.
