Devon

Located in Britain’s South West Peninsula, Devon is a rural county made up of coastal cliffs, hilly landscapes, and sandy shores. Devon also has two unique coastlines, along the English Channel and the Celtic Sea. Devon is home to several Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty: the North Devon Coast, East Devon Area, South Devon, and Blackdown Hills. Also in the region lies the The Dartmoor National Park, which is the largest outdoor space in all of Southern England. 

Devon generally has a cool oceanic climate as a result of the North Atlantic Drift, though the weather is typically mild, even in winter, due to its high altitude. However, the weather can vary significantly, and the region is typically wetter and windier than elsewhere in the UK. Rainfall in the region varies quite significantly, with more rainfall around areas such as Dartmoor, and lesser rainfall in the rain shadow along the coast in the southeast. 

Devon is famed for red fertile soils in the east, and loamy soils in the north, both of which are versatile and suited to growing fruits and vegetables. Devon’s county flower is the primrose, and many a garden boast lawns lined with this beautiful flower.
